Inside the price

What the monthly fee actually covers.

A per-user rate means little until you know what sits inside it. These are the parts of a small business’s technology that the package runs.

  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Licensing, mailboxes, identity and file structure on whichever platform you use.
  • Website hosting and maintenance. Hosting, updates and fixes for the business website.
  • Domain registration and DNS management. Renewals and DNS records, registered in your business’s name.
  • DMARC monitoring and enforcement. Email authentication that stops criminals sending mail as your domain.
  • Managed EDR, ITDR and 24/7 SOC. Endpoint and identity protection through Huntress, watched around the clock.
  • Basic SEO. The technical basics of local search for the website.
  • Managed IT remote support. Monitoring, patching, onboarding and a business-hours help desk.
  • Essential Eight assessment. A written position against the ACSC Essential Eight, which insurers and tender panels increasingly ask for.

The security line is 24/7: managed EDR and ITDR through Huntress, watched by a security operations centre around the clock. The help desk is business hours AEST. Those are different services, and a quote should say which hours each one covers.

Outside the price

What is charged separately.

A headline rate that quietly excludes the expensive parts is the thing to watch for, so here is everything that sits outside ours.

Onsite

Site visits

Charged per visit at a discounted package rate, stated in your proposal. Most issues are fixed remotely first, so visits are the exception rather than a weekly cost.

Projects

Moves, fit-outs and migrations

Office relocations, cabling and platform migrations are quoted as projects and approved by you before any work starts.

Hardware

Laptops, firewalls and switches

Equipment is quoted and approved by you before it is bought, separately from the monthly fee.

What moves the number

What changes a managed IT quote.

These are the things that decide what a business actually pays, with any provider.

01

Headcount

The biggest single driver. Per-user pricing scales with the people who need email, devices and support, rather than with every printer and phone on the network.

02

What you already own

Existing Microsoft 365 or Google tenancies, domains and hosting are taken over rather than re-bought, which lowers the first-year cost.

03

Onsite needs

A business that needs regular site visits costs more to support than one that runs mostly in the cloud. Location decides whether visits are possible at all.

04

Servers and networks

An on-premises server, several sites or a complex network add work that a cloud-only office does not have.

Comparing quotes

Eight questions to ask any managed IT provider.

Two quotes with the same headline figure can cover very different things. These questions make them comparable.

  • Is it priced per user or per device? Per device means every new laptop or phone moves the bill.
  • Is security monitoring included, and is it 24/7? Ask for EDR and a named SOC in writing, not “antivirus”.
  • Is Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace licensing included, or billed separately on top?
  • Who runs the website, domain and DNS? Many IT providers exclude them, which leaves a second vendor for the thing customers see first.
  • What does an onsite visit cost? Get the rate in the proposal, not after the first invoice.
  • Is there a setup fee or a minimum term? Ask what leaving costs before you start.
  • Whose name are the licences and domains registered in? They should be yours.
  • Where do you sit against the Essential Eight? A provider who manages your security should be able to answer in writing.

Pricing questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do managed IT services cost per user?

With Secure Nerds the first five users are covered by the $1,000 monthly package, which works out at $200 per user. Each user after that adds $100 a month, so the effective rate falls as the team grows — $125 per user at twenty staff and $110 per user at fifty. All prices exclude GST.

Is Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace licensing included?

Yes. Platform licensing is part of the package rather than a separate pass-through bill. If you already pay for Microsoft 365 yourself, we take over the existing tenancy instead of re-buying it, and the written quote reflects what you already own.

Is there a setup fee or a lock-in contract?

No to both. There is no setup fee and no lock-in term. Licences, domains and tenancies are registered to your business rather than to us, so if you leave you take everything with you.

How is onsite support charged?

Onsite attendance sits outside the monthly fee and is charged separately, at a discounted rate for package clients. Most problems are fixed remotely first, so visits are the exception. We attend site in Brisbane and South East Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, and the rate is stated in your proposal.

Do businesses outside Brisbane pay a different price?

No. The package is priced the same across Australia: $1,000 a month for up to five users and $100 for each extra user. What changes by location is onsite attendance — Hobart, Darwin and regional areas are managed remotely rather than visited.

What about businesses with more than fifty staff?

Teams above fifty users are quoted individually on scope rather than by formula. Send your headcount, sites and current systems and we return a written scope and price, normally within two business days, with no audit fee and no obligation.
